deGENERATE

I wrote a review of KsK in Interface V.2.1 that seemed to distress the band a bit. What I said was that I thought that KsK was a band to watch, but needed time to grow. Well, sirs, the time has certainly come and deGenerate is one fine album. Crisp sounding electronics mixed with the odd distorted sound and vocals that are leaps beyond Beat It To Fit, Paint It To Match. The vocals on this album are extremely impressive, at times reminiscent of Alice In Chains style harmonies, such as on "Meth" (that was a compliment)and coupled with the overall dynamics between the songs make this a complete album. With the same perceptions and outlook as the prior album, a dystopic and paranoid political view ala mid-eighties punk rock, KsK take the elements of their punk-goth edge and cybernetic, dark electronic music to a new level. Styles of songs on this album range from the angry rock tinges of "Your Money, Your Pain" to the soft ambience of "Eventually" to the synth-heavy "Kontorted" that flows directly into the remix "Kontortion." Several songs that are connected in theme flow into each other, such as "Produkt A," :Produkt B" and "Produkt C," as well as the short last four unnamed tracks. Featured once again on this album is the slambar, a custom made instrument designed to replace the guitar in the band's line-up, I presume. But, despite the liner notes proudly proclaiming "No Guitar" and that "all similar timbres are bass and slambar," if it quakes like a duck... (Cleopatra Records) - Anon_Devi
